Here are the questions I would ask about Tonga, some of which I asked in my interview last night. There are actually 27 I think.
How are communities organized?
What are the dynamics of marriage relationships?
What are the responsibilities of the fathers in each family?
What are the responsibilities of the mothers in each family?
How do families in communities take part in raising other people’s children?
What are the daily lives of children like?
What do they learn in school and how are the schools structured?
What do they do in their spare time?
What are their responsibilities in the home?
What role does tapa weaving play in social interactions?
What is considered aesthetically pleasing to the people?
What kinds of animals live amongst/around the people?
Are there any health problems that a lot of the people are subject to?
What is medical care like? Are there doctors, traditional healers etc.
Do people travel (and how far) to have/maintain social relations outside of communities?
What kinds of art do people participate in?
Do women have their own means of control and power over family/community and how?
What are the culture norms for dating and courtship?
What kind of music do people participate in culturally and how many different kinds (from other places) they exposed to?
How are the family lives and structure of LDS Tongans different from other Christian Tongan families?

What are the different kinds of jobs that different people hold?
How do people feel about students/researchers “studying” them?
